EDMI – pioneering smart gas meters

The Brief:

In a bid to give consumers greater control over their energy consumption, policy makers around the world are forming plans to introduce smart meters to households.  EDMI, a leading global energy company, required a new smart gas meter product and after reviewing their options, the company outsourced its firmware development brief and engaged Abelon to develop the next generation of domestic smart meters.

Our Approach:

Embedded software specialist, Abelon Systems, has partnered with EDMI to develop a leading-edge smart gas meter for EDMI’s customers in the global energy industry worldwide. Abelon worked alongside EDMI to develop pioneering and innovative firmware, enabling standalone communications and a metering application that is sufficiently flexible for use across different domestic and global markets.

Originally developed for the New Zealand market, Abelon are now working to enhance the meter for the European market with a variety of new features which will position EDMI at the forefront of metering suppliers. Our flexible approach and emphasis on high quality delivery makes us the obvious choice for delivering these crucial new variants.

Outcome:

Despite an evolving product brief and demanding timescales, the outcome is the production of the first in a range of innovative new smart meters, EDMI’s ultrasonic Smart Gas Meter G6000. 

Following a successful showcase at European Utility Week 2013, EDMI is now positioned at the forefront of smart metering equipment and technology compliance.  Abelon Systems is also recognised as an exceptional design house in this market, already working with worldwide companies to help develop further smart meter technology.
